Just had a talk with Rev. Samuel Rodriguez over the phone. He’ll be giving the message at Saddleback Church in Orange County, California this weekend. Although he’ll be preaching more from an evangelistic perspective during worship services, I had a chance to talk to him about what’s going on in the U.S. today. Rodriguez is unique in that not only is he a preacher of the finest kind, he’s a social activist that mixes it up with the big boys. I had a chance to get to know him a bit through my work at the Christian Post. I’ll be posting the interview story soon, but here’s a snippet of the conversation I just had moments ago.

“Silence is not an option. As a nation we have never been under the canopy of darkness that we presently find ourselves. In the past six weeks it has been almost surreal. It goes beyond SCOTUS…yes, SCOTUS redefining marriage, yes, subsequent attacks on religious liberty, yes, Planned Parenthood and the selling of baby parts, you name it…It’s almost surreal. It’s eerie and almost apocalyptic … it’s almost to the point where people don’t want to turn on the television set if you’re a Christ follower… We can’t be silent about issues that impact Christiandom … We need to speak truth with love … The church has never been more passive and politically correct. We can’t drink the Kool-Aid that it’s all love. We can love people to hell if we don’t share truth.” – Samuel Rodriguez
